‘Mowlana’ biopic starts shooting in Paris

The shooting stage for Iran-France coproduction biopic ‘Mowlana’ has kicked off in the French capital of Paris.

The film shoot began on February 14, 2019 based on a screenplay co-written by French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière and his author and scholar Iranian wife Nahal Tajaddod.  

‘Mowlana’ screenwriter Carrière is a French novelist, screenwriter, actor, and Academy Award honoree. He is also an expert on Rumi. The book ‘Love: The Joy That Wounds: The Love Poems of Rumi’ has been prefaced by Carrière.

The film scenes will be captured in France and some other European countries as well as Turkey where Mowlana spent most parts of his life.

The film which is to be named 'Mowlana', known to the English-speaking world simply as Rumi, will have a French/ English director while the producer is Mehdi Hosseini from Iran.

Mowlana was a 13th century poet Persian poet, Islamic jurist, and theologian. Hi is a widely-read poet in Iran and other Persian-speaking countries. His English-translated works have also become quite popular in the West.

Rumi is a descriptive name meaning "the Roman" since he lived most parts of his life in Anatolia which had been part of the Roman Empire until the Seljuq conquest two centuries earlier.

Further details on the rest of the cast and crew team have not been announced yet.
